Ph.D. Students:

Exceptionally qualified students are strongly encouraged to apply for the HKU Presidential PhD Scholar Programme (HKUPS) and the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS), both open from 1st September to 1st December each year.

Each HKUPS awardee will receive a package of up to around 433,300 HK dollars (55,560 US dollars) in the first year, and up to around 413,300 HK dollars (52,990 US dollars) in each of the subsequent years during the normative study period.

Each HKPFS awardee will receive a Postgraduate Scholarship of 28,100 HK dollars per month, and conference and research-related travel allowance of 14,000 HK dollars per year for a period up to three years.
We also welcome students to join us through the Joint Ph.D. Programmes.
Postdoc Researchers:
We are actively recruiting postdoctoral researchers year-round. Postdoctoral researchers are expected to have a strong research and publication record and demonstrate the ability to conduct independent research as well as mentor students.

- A cover letter outlining your research plan and experience with funding proposal writing;
- (Optional) A recommendation letter.
Qualified candidates are strongly encouraged to apply for the RGC Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme (PDFS). The application deadline typically falls between September and October each year.
For each awardee, the supporting university provides:
- An annual stipend of 420,090 HK dollars for the awardee’s basic salary;
- A conference and research-related travel allowance of 13,350 HK dollars per year inclusively.
For exceptional postdoc candidates who do not secure funding through the PDFS, our lab can provide funding support.
❗❗❗ Our department offers a postdoctoral scheme, with applications due in May each year. The eligibility criteria are as follows:
- The applicant must have a PhD degree in a relevant field from a reputable university;
- The applicant should have a strong publication record, including at least one SCI/SSCI journal paper published or accepted;
- The applicant must demonstrate excellent English proficiency, as evidenced by either of the following:
- A PhD degree from a reputable university either in Hong Kong or overseas, where English is the medium of instruction,
- At least 2 years of academic experience in Hong Kong or an English-speaking country overseas,
- An IELTS score of 7.0 or higher (with subtest scores above 6.5, taken within the past 2 years); or TOEFL iBT test score of 98 or higher (with subtest scores above 20, taken within the past 2 years)
- The applicant must be able to resume duty on or before 1 September of the same year.
Research Assistants
We welcome Master’s and Bachelor’s students (not limited to HKU) interested in working with us as Research Assistants or Research Interns, either online or onsite. A background in our research areas and strong programming skills are highly desirable. Outstanding candidates will be hired as Paid Research Assistants and receive funding support (around 20,000 HK dollars per month).
